Nancy Miller, Ozona March lessons:
I chose to make my curriculum page on Nursery Rhymes, because even though I teach third grade I found that my students do not know most of the rhymes. We are in a pod with kindergarten and I will often call a kindergarten student over to answer questions during our trivia games we play when the third grade student cannot answer questions about nursery rhymes. They did enjoy following the sites on the web to get the answers.

My scavenger hunt is designed for my students to explore a website with a partner, read the information about planets and then answer questions about the planets . I tried to keep the questions simple for my first graders. I can't wait to try it.

Melissa,
I really liked your scavenger hunt. It was very first grade appropriate which was a relief after looking at all of those awesome hunts for upper grades. Your graphics added so much to the page.
Colleen
Colleen - I couldn't get it to work either. Let me know what I'm doing wrong. We don't get much of the planets incorporated into our second grade curriculum, so this is something they'll be able to do on their own. Cheryl

For the curriculum pages Brandie and I looked at the skills we will cover on the 3rd grade Pacing Guide for the rest of the year. We divided them up and we are creating a curriculum page for each unit. The students will complete each during their scheduled computer time during our reading rotations. This one focuses on Main Idea. There are links that allow them to practice the skill online. For the last activity they read an online piece of text then do some writing in their Reader's Response log. 3/12/08
Julie, I really liked your search and I think its great you put your own personal opinion on the bottom. I think that shows that you went to all the websites too and did what you are asking the students to do! Happy Saint Patricks Day!
My comments to others:
Hi Lolly, Great job on your scavenger hunt. I even know the answer to question 3. Sophie Germain :) Julie 3/17/08
Hi Mollie, Great Scavenger hunt. I really liked the Trash Matcher link, I got some fun ideas. Julie 3/17/08
I guess in month since I posted my page, those first two links have been taken down. I did check them at the time and they were working, my students even did them as one of their center activities. Here is another example of one I did for measurement. As of today all links work. 4/10/08

My curriculum scavenger hunt deals with Fact and Opinion. I used the same lesson for my March Technology Integration Plan. As Julie stated, we worked together on this project. We wanted our third graders to have some practice using the Reading skills in a different presentation than they have seen in the past. We also wanted them to get comfortable opening different programs and using them to enhance their learning as opposed to the drill and practice activities they are used to seeing.

Brandie, I really liked the Fact/Opinion work. It's a great way to let the kids explore the skill rather than just do a mini-lesson. It would be a fun way to direct kids to specific activities for the different skills.

Hi Brandi,
I like your fact and opinion page. I thought the second website was great. It gives students a chance to test thier knowledge of fact and opinion. I also like how you were able to connect Hardcourt to your page. That fits in great with county expectations. Great Job! Melissa 3/23/08
Brandie,
I am always looking for activities to increase my autistic students reading skills. This will be a great activity for me to use with them. I access the internet a lot to help me increase their skills. This unit in how to create various curriculum pages, scavenger hunts, and WebQuests will give me the skills to create meaningful activities for these unique students with autism. Thanks. -Jay Kinney 3/27/2008
Brandi,
The fact/opinion websites were great. I will be using them with my students who are still experiencing difficulties with this concept.

Mollie,
I enjoyed the Art Scavenger Hunt. I will be using it for one of my students who loves to draw and create various storybooks. This activity will help further this interest he is exhibiting. You know what is so great about the diversity of the teachers we have in the CTIP this year, is that we get to see how this technology can enlarge our curriculum in all areas. Keep up the great work. -Jay Kinney, 3/27/2008

Mollie - Nice scavenger hunt. Art is one of our "overlooked" subjects and this is a great idea for the subject. Cheryl
I created a treasure hunt using Filimentality.com. It is based on our current Unit of Inquiry. Hopefully the questions were pretty open ended since we want the kids to come up with the answers instead of just a series of facts. I'm looking for connections more than anything. I'll probably end up using one of these types of lessons for my March lesson plan. I LOVE this type of project based work.

I really enjoyed the Filimentality treasure hunt. It gave me the opportunity to see how that can be applied to some of my searches. The project based work is allowing me to explore what needs to be applied and developed for my activities in my unit....thanks. -Jay Kinney 3/27/2008

March Assignment
Since I teach first grade it is a little difficult to allow my students to search the Internet, so my curricum page is pretty
simple. This month I am completing the Curriculum page with my students as a whole class acitvity. In Science we are learning about different
habitats. I decided to try to integrate this months assignment into my section on the rainforest. 3/23/08

This month I am putting my students into groups, including one advanced student in each group. I am going to have them complete
the curriculum page in their groups. This will be done in the computer lab with two other teachers helping me. This will be
my students first experience on the Internet. I am interested in seeing how this works out. 3/23/08

I completed my curriculum pages with my kids this week. My kids loved completing the activity in groups. I went in thinking this activity
was going to be a disaster. I was so surprised at how well my class worked together and were able to answer all of the questions.
I would use this activity again. 4/10/08

I have had the pleasure of working with an intern in my unit these last two months. Miss Carlie Fauth has been a great addition to the unit; this gives her an opportunity to apply her knowledge in the classroom environment. I have encouraged her to utilize the CTIP skills that I am learning to increase her effectiveness with the students in my autism classroom. It is paying off...her supervisor praised her for using technology in the presentation of her lessons. This March lesson is our joint effort.

to integrate basic reading strategies as well as form the background for some math questions.

I liked your webquest. I am always looking for activities for my first grader to do on long breaks like the one coming up. Thanks for the ideas.
Lolly,
I like the way your webquest links math and history. Nice Job.

I created a "Poetry Supermarket" curriculum page for this assignment. I gave the students two web sites filled with poems they are to read and select a favorite. After selecting the poem, the students have questions to answer about the poem.

This scavenger hunt was created for my 8th grade science classes to use. The kids really enjoyed learning about the different waves on the electromagnetic spectrum. They really got a kick out of the fact that their cell phones use microwaves to transmit! We had a great time doing this in the computer lab and I plan on making more for next year! Jess

I created a multiple site search document designed to help 9th grade English students to find information on the Elizabethan Theatre and create a researched paper of 3-4 pages in length. Part of the process includes learning to use the Purdue OWL site designed for high school and college students writing research papers.

My lesson involves collecting information about scientists over time. The students created a timeline of of scientists accomplishmnets through the centuries. Wanted posters were displayed in the hallway. This enabled other classes to view and utilize the information...Walking Gallery assessment.
My integration plan invovles a website evaluation. Students need practice in searching for evidence that a website is reliable.
